For in that winter-sleep what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this hungry fur Must give us pause: there’s self respect That makes completion of so long life For who would bear the twists and turns of time A surrealist, experimental movie on transformation. By bearing uncertain times where orientation gets lost and one can rely only on the deep inner sound/voice we can reconnect to our spirits, our animus/anima, the wild within. Even if this animal-souls craving seems to make no sense, it is the pure essence of ourselves, we must trust and rely on. The clip is a cooperation of the viennese media artist Maria Hera and the composer Julian Gamisch. HACKING THE NETWORK
6-11.11. 2017 U10 Art Space, Kosovke devojke 3 Monday, 6th November at 19h - opening Saturday, 11th November at 17:30 - talk with Vladimir Bjeličić Saturday, 11th November at 19h - finissage with performances The artists Maria Hera, Šejma Fere and Lena Violetta Leitner, albeit seemingly different sensibilities, are establishing a dialogue by focusing on different models of conceiving images on an analog / digital basis. By using various methods of collaging, deconstructing and changing meanings, each artist establishes her own micro-narrative on the trail of the idea of hacking. Whether it's a series of works on paper, interactive installations or performance, another reference point in addition to collage as a research base is the symbiosis of technology and nature. By introducing a botanical vocabulary, or directly integrating plant species or by mimicking the shape of the plant's root (rhizome), the artists are further conceptually connected, and they perform an authentic narrative of new characters, symbols or perhaps the allegory of contemporaneity in the light of the intersection of art and technology. (from the text by Vladimir Bjeličić, Art historian) Maria Hera is a German artist with Romanian roots. She graduated fine arts at the University of Applied Arts and Science Hannover, DE and attended the masterclass of Prof. Bernhard Garbert. We launched an open call to encourage local and international artists (especially women and LGBTQI+ community) from different fields of visual and applied arts to apply and present diverse approaches on the concept femininity. Artists were invited to explore, demystify, question and redefine the concept, whether it was through a social, personal, political or corporeal approach. The exhibition aims to open up a dialogue between artworks/artists and public to question and reflect the contemporary connotation of the concept femininity, sexuality and gender roles. The artworks subvert, at the same time surrender and challenge the archetypes of femininity. These aesthetical observations become metaphors of how to look at the broader issues of empowerment, gender roles, questions of personal identity, beauty, politics, hegemony, labour, patriarchy, popular culture and societal expectations.
